Thirteen 600s made the trip down to Lake Garda for round two of the RS
Euro-cup and no one was let down by the conditions, with only one race
being abandoned and the rest being held in a good force 4 and bright
sunshine.
The majority of the fleet went out for a practise sail on Sunday,
which left some people commenting that the drive down had been worth
it just for that sail!
Even in this small fleet there was some very tight racing however Alex
Newton-Southon undoubtedly dominated the event revelling in the strong
winds. Indeed it was only a mistake on a very fast broad reach in the
fourth race that stopped him getting a clean sweep of first places. Alex
did not have it all his own way though and was pushed hard by the rest of
the fleet particularly towards the end of the week. Ian Jubb and Matt
Chapman sailed a consistent series to finish in second and third places
respectively. Lodge Gabbels sailing Mad Max in his first 600 event also
put together an impressive set of results to finish a very respectable
ninth.
The excellent sailing was not let down by the shore based activities,
with RS sailors being found in bars early in the morning still grinning
from a mixture of the days racing and the cheap cocktails.
