The second event of the year saw the RS600's arrive Oxford for the weekend of 3-4th March.  It was good to see 15 boats including new faces, hardy perennials and most of the top guys in the fleet, making the racing really close. The event was shared with RS300's and Contenders who generally stayed out of the way from the faster 600s.

Race 1 started in mid range wind conditions on a gusty, shifty Farmoor Reservoir. After being assured by a local that all the wind is round the edges at Farmoor I went hard right up the dam wall and sailed into a big lull, leaving the fleet led by Pete Nelson and Jamie Mawson to disappear into the distance. Chris Tilbrook showed some elements of great boat speed, but a broken mainsheet forced him to raid the boat park in search of more rope!

For race 2 the wind strengthened and steadied to provide a fairer first beat, but once again Jamie Mawson and Pete Nelson accelerated away. Richard Broughton provided comedy and annoyance by capsizing whilst tacking to avoid James Nuttall near the weather mark and forcing Mark Cooper into the it. The trick on the beats seemed avoiding the random stilted platform and the other two fleets at the Leeward mark. Mark Cooper recovered into a well deserved second leaving Jamie Mawson to take the winners honours.

Race 3 saw similar conditions to race 2, with similar leaders breaking away. For the second time on the bottom reach the 600's crossed the 300's start fortunately without any collisions, but with big gains for those who squeezed above the dirty air round the 300 start. On the second lap by the gybe mark a big gust caught out a number of 300's and the ill fortuned Chris Tillbrook leaving others to weeve through the melee of inverted boats. The final laps saw good decisions and boat speed from George Smith to give him 3rd place behind Pete Nelson and Jamie Mawson.

Saturday evening saw the delights of Hardwicks campsite and an Aussie run local pub for the cheapskates of the fleet. Those of us there were glad to be joined by local man and former national champion Ian Marshall who promised to join the event on Sunday.

Race 4 saw light and shifty conditions on the Sunday morning making it difficult to set a fair course. The race turned out to be a frustrating single lap with Ian Marshall winning in front of Mark Cooper and John Powell.

Race 5 proved more fun with more breeze and Dan Robbins powering off the pin end of the start line into a commanding lead. Unfortunately for him he was over the line which left Ian Marshall to win and Chris Tilbrook second.

The final race 6 showed again the merits of coming clean off the pin end with Ian Marshall and Richard Broughton ahead at the first mark. However the race course had changed from race 5 without the leaders noticing, and the whole fleet followed them most of the way to the wrong mark. Jamie Mawson shouted out the mistake causing the fleet to turn inside out as everyone luffed to the 2nd mark. Jamie Mawson changed his moral goodness into material gain by winning the final race with a well deserved second attained by Dan Robbins.

For the final results this left the big three prize winners of Jamie Mawson, Pete Nelson and Mark Cooper close on points but clearly ahead of the rest the fleet
