Results / Boll POSH Regatta Paignton SC - 11/05/2013

A strong showing of 8 RS600s arrived at Paignton sailing club on Saturday morning, along with 44 other single handers to take part POSH regatta. The wind was very strong and turned out to be too much to get all 3 raced planned for Saturday.

Only Alan and Tim choose to go out with the small rig and, after observing some interesting launching techniques from the rest to the POSH fleet (the blaze fleet especially seemed to be having issues launching onto a dead run), we all made it to the start. The one race we completed was fast and challenging for all. The fleet went round the windward mark very close together, with Pete having a small lead on the rest of us. The downwind was fast with two fantastic reaches and a downwind leg which proved to be difficult for everyone. As the raced progressed we slowly became more spread out but Pete held his lead a won. This was the only race of the day as the wind continued to build and proved to be too much for the other fleets.

Sunday was slightly lighter but still windy. The race committee made up for lost time and got 5 races in. All the racing was close, fast and exciting. Any position could be quickly lost with the smallest mistake.

Race 2 saw Pete get a good start and hold a lead. The rest of us were constantly swapping places I was able to grab 2nd with Wayne in 3rd. For race 3 and 4 I was able to gain an early lead and hold it for the race. Behind it was hard to tell who was leading at any time. Paul and Pete was changing places throughout race 3 with Paul pinching 2nd at the end. Race 5 saw Pete and Paul shoot off into the lead, leaving the rest of us to scrap for 3rd. It was so close the Chris came in 3rd with myself and Wayne a boat length behind, with less than half between us. In the last race I got into the lead early with Pete right behind. The wind had built making the downwind tricky. It stayed this close for the race, each of us knowing that one mistake would cause us to lose, not just the race, but the event. It was close but I was able to stay in the lead and win the last race.

Because of the last race I won the event despite being on equal points with Pete. It just demonstrates how close the weekend was.

It was a fantastic event and thanks must go to Paignton sailing club for all their hard work in making it happen.
