The Final 2004 RS600 Fat Face Circuit event saw lots of entertainment on the water. The first race starting on time left Ian Marshal and Mat Conner caught out crossing the line 5 minutes after the start gun. With light winds of Force 3 Ian managed to work his way up the fleet to finish in 8th place, while Mat only managed to gain 1 place finishing in 10th. At the front end of the fleet 1st and 2nd place was fought out by Jamie Mawson and Andy Heissig with Andy forcing Jamie into the windward mark. Sailing on club rules meant Jamie had to do his turns and dropped back to finish in 4th, leaving Andy to take 1st and Rob Chaplin 2nd. With a swift turn around the 2nd race got on its way smoothly with Jamie taking the lead closely followed by Rob and Mat. Mat capsized on the reach allowing Dave Nunn to move into 3rd closely followed by Ian. After earlier laughing at Mat?s capsize, missed the wing bar on a tack while going though the gate and capsized. He recovered quickly to finish in 4th, with Dave in 3rd, Rob 2nd and Jamie in 1st. The 3rd race got underway with Ian making a gutsy port hand start ducking Jamie and just crossing Rob. Going inshore and keeping out of the tide Ian reached the windward mark with a good lead and went on to finish in 1st. After a poor start and in light and shift winds Rob managed to fight his way in to 3rd, with Jamie 2nd. The second day saw more wind with the first race of the day getting off on time. Jamie took an early lead with Ian close on his heels. Rob and Dave were fighting it out for 3rd until the 2nd lap when Rob fell back to 8th. Jamie opened his lead with Ian being closely chased by the fleet. After sailing in to a hole Dave fell back to finish in 8th with Rob clawing his way back to finish in 4th. Jamie took 1st with Ian in 2nd, Alex Knight in 3rd. Race 5 saw places changing hands with Ian and Andy fighting it out for 1st. Dave starting late was playing catch up when at 10 metres to the finish line Jamie dropped his main sheet, Alex ran in to the back of Jamie and Mat called starboard on them both. Jamie could not give way, giving Dave the opportunity to sail past them all to finish in 4th place and Fred Lord to take 5th. Mat capsized, Jamie and Alex did their turns and went on to finish 6th and 7th leaving Mat to finish 8th. Ian took a clear lead followed by Andy and Rob. The last race saw Mat get a good start closely followed by Ian and Jamie. Ian overtook Mat at the end of the 2nd beat and left the fleet standing. On the second reach Mat sailed into a hole and was overtaken and undertaken by Jamie, Rob and Dave, leaving Ian to take 1st, Jamie 2nd and Rob 3rd. Overall results: 1st Ian Marshall, 2nd Jamie Mawson, 3rd Rob Chaplin; and the Merit award for continuous improvement went to Damon Bower.
