RS600 Fat Face Circuit event 10th & 11th July 2004 at Weymouth & Portland Sailing Academy Competitors arrived at WPSA on Saturday morning to a sunny day and a nice force 4. The course was shared with the RS700s with the RS600s doing a windward leeward around marks 2 and 3. 3 races were scheduled for the day. Race 1 got off on time with Matt Humphries taking an early lead followed by Pete Saunders in 2nd and Andy Heissig in 3rd. Andy took the leeward mark badly and dropped back to finish in 7th place leaving Dave Nunn to finish 3rd. Race 2 saw Matt taking the early lead again only to break his trapeze rope and snap his tiller extension across his wing bar while capsizing. Matt managed to limp home finishing 6th leaving Pete Saunders to take a win, Andy 2nd and Alex Knight 3rd. Matt after producing his spare tiller extension and repairing his trapeze rope on the water went on to win race 3. Saturday night the RS600s organised their own class barbeque that even the weather couldn?t dampen. With lots of beer and food the class gathered under the awnings to discuss the days racing and the forthcoming event in Garda before some of the fleet went on to enjoy Weymouth?s night life. Sunday broke with more sunshine and a force 4 for the last 3 races of this fat face circuit event. The course was changed to a trapezoid by popular request to get more reaches. Matt again took an early lead in Race 4 with Dave in 2nd. Mat extended his lead with the rest of the fleet in hot pursuit. Pete Saunders took 2nd place only briefly before Dave took it back to finish nearly a leg behind Matt. Races 5 and 6 again saw Matt taking the lead. Race 6 saw some entertainment at the start line with Ian Marshall being pushed out at the end of the line, hitting the committee boat resulting in being disqualified for that race. Overall Matt Humphries took 1st place, Peter Saunders 2nd and Andy Heissig 3rd, with Richard Lilley taking the merit award for showing some excellent first beats on Saturday. An excellent weekend was had by all. Thanks go to Fat Face, WPSA, and the race officers for well run races.
