Farmoor S.C., Oxford Saturday 9th April was the 1st Training Day of the season with 11 trainees new and old to the fleet with a variety of time in the boat. With strong winds giving some difficulties to those newest to the boat everyone finished the day learning something and improving their boat handling. Sunday 10th April saw the first of the one day circuit events at Oxford, a cool sunny day with force 4 winds. Race 1 saw Ian Marshall and Dave Nunn get clear port hand starts but Shaun Anderson and Damon Bower ended up having a port/starboard collision on the start line. Shaun recovered well to follow Ian and Dave up the beat in 3rd place. Shaun slowly reeled Dave in overtaking him towards the end of the first lap and went on to finish 2nd behind Ian. Race 2 started well with John Randall taking an early lead and holding it until Mark 3 the gybe mark of a trapezoid course where he took a costly swim dropping back to 4th place, putting Ian in 1st place again followed by Shaun and Dave. Johns capsize allowed Jon Powell to catch up making 4th place closely contested. Race 3 had a port bias start line making it difficult to cross on a starboard tack, Jon Powell and Dave just got a clear start on port with Jon reaching the windward mark in 1st place. Shaun started the wrong side of the committee boat on the wrong line so was sailing catch up for the whole race. Ian just rounded the windward mark in 2nd place and moved into 1st on the second leg going on to win his 3rd race. Shaun sailed well catching everyone giving Dave a run for his money and finishing in 2nd place. Thanks go to Oxford Sailing Club and the race officer for a great days racing.
