15 RS600�s made the trip to Weston at the weekend for their fifth Fat Face Sponsored circuit event. A predominantly light and extremely shifty weekend was on the cards with both days seeing the wind blowing offshore Force 2-3 occasionally dropping to nothing! Jamie Mawson started the weekend off well with a clear win, second and third eventually went to Ian Marshall and Paul Smalley at the expense of Charlie Roome and Demo Dave who lost out in the unpredictable conditions. Marshall made the second race his own, unchallenged since Mawson suffered gear failure and was forced to retire. Smalley came through into second with Knight taking third. In the third Smalley took the best start in the windiest race of the weekend and lead for the duration. Behind Mawson (now repaired) and Marshall were fighting for second and third with Mawson taking second. Fred Lord sailed his best race of the weekend to snatch fourth place from Roome, showing he might be one to watch in future. Sunday saw lighter breezes even les predictable than the Saturday with huge 45 degree shifts up the beats. Demo Dave led the first race by a huge margin, after what we can only assume was a stupendous first beat and easily held the lead to the finish. Smalley had to fight off Marshall for second place with Knight right behind them in fourth. Roome finally managed what he�d been threatening to do all weekend in the penultimate race leading it from start to finish. (Amazing what can be accomplished when the rig is waving in the air and not underwater) Knight was in second until the last 25 metres when the lee from a B14 allowed Smalley to snatch second place, Marshall had a difficult race and was 6th behind Mawson. This meant Marshall had to win the last race to take the Open from Smalley. Roome was still in his zone though and Marshall really wasn�t capsizing up the first beat. Roome looked like he was on for another win but a swim on the last reach to the finish allowed Mawson through making him the only person to win two races in the weekend. Thanks to Weston for being super efficient with the racing. The 600 fleet looks forward to more extremely tight racing at Filey in 3 weeks time with the series wide open.
