The second round of the RS Fat Face series at Oxford sailing club

On a bright Saturday morning driving to Oxford sailing club after lots of scenic roués I finally came across the sailing club after a lot more time and petrol than is should have taken. As more and more people turned up the anticipation grew with the wind gaining more and more every minute.

Once boats were rigged they ended up at the launching area.and breakfast was due. Sadly halfway through my bacon sarney I was told that my boat may have been even more egar than me for a change and the wind had launched it for me. Hence my Hoff impression to save it before it sailed off to the horizon, only issue being it was very slippery and I feel flat on my back in 2 foot of water in my jeans and t-shirt much to the amusement of the whole sailing club.

Once everyone was on the water it was clear to see that there was going to be plenty of wind with it topping off in the high 20s. The first race started after a first failed attempt because the committee boat was heading for the concrete wall, dragging its anchor. Places were quite regularly changed during the race but with his return Ian Marshall came in first followed closely by me James Sainsbury and third went to Olly Straker.

The second race turned a little fluky with the wind strength getting lighter and stronger all the time. This time Olly managed to make his lead stick and take first shortly followed buy Jamie Mawson and then Ian in third.

The third race of the day was cancelled after the first lap as the rescue boats couldn’t keep up with the carnage of us and the contender fleet that were with us.

The evening saw a fantastic Indian and pubbing organised by Chris and Tony Mitchell.

Back at the club bright and early on the Sunday looking to blow the cobwebs out from the night before we weren’t disappointed the same conditions faced us as the day before.

Race four saw Jamie take 1st followed by Ian and after some issues around the course Olly fort back to gain third.

Race 5 saw Ian come home first shortly after came Jamie then James 

Race 6 found Olly at the front after a tight battle with Jamie coming in second and Jon Powell in third.
